——-KPF Songdo City

Identity, data visualization, consulted KPF studio of James von Klemperer on the master plan and generative design methodologies.

TMR directed research and designed maps and diagrams. We turned data into visual narratives that informed all planning decisions. TMR proposed methodology and developed concept programs to design city blocks with a variety of open spaces and 3d layouts. We launched the KPF Urban Planning book series, which now includes over 40 titles.

Songdo City’s green infrastructure and community planning set a new standard for sustainability. Walkable 15-minute neighborhoods encourage an active street life. Almost half of the city area is green space, while all parking is below grade. The vast Central Park, wind-powered sea-water canals, tree-lined streets, and green roofs make Songdo pleasant even in hot summers. KPF based Songdo on lessons learned from cities around the world, using comparative data on the scale, density, % of green and paved areas, width, and typology of streets.
