In The Sense of Order Gombrich discusses the evolution and perception of decorative motifs. One of the most ubiquitous motifs is a wave, found in Anatolia in the sixth millennium BC, in Greek and Roman mosaics, but also in ancient China and Japan. As Gombrich notes, delight lies between boredom and confusion. The break with repetition makes an object worthy of attention. The pattern we designed combines the regularity of Meander with Medusa-like entangled fluid lines.
